Sharing Dance Day on June 1!
Are you looking for a free way for the whole family to have fun and stay physically active together?
Join the movement at NBS Sharing Dance Day 2018!
Hosted by Canada’s National Ballet of Canada (NBS) in partnership with Arts Umbrella and Ballet BC, and the Vancouver International Children’s Festival, Sharing Dance Day aims to get all Canadians active and engaged in dance. It’s a nation-wide, family-friendly dance engagement activity culminating in community performances on Sharing Dance Day events across the country.
Each year, thousands of Canadians learn the easy-to-learn choreography: this year’s focuses on the theme of environmental stewardship. You can join in by attending free community rehearsals, and by accessing online rehearsal videos and informational toolkits.
About the choreography
For Sharing Dance Day 2018, two talented choreographers representing different styles of dance, geographic locations and cultural backgrounds, collaborated to create a unique piece of choreography that explores the importance of environmental stewardship. They are Eugene Baffoe (GeNie), a freestyle battle dancer and teacher in Canada’s Royal Winnipeg Ballet School’s Recreational Division, and Michelle Olson, who lives in Vancouver, and is a member of the Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in First Nation (Yukon) and the Artistic Director of Raven Spirit Dance.
