Youth Digital Theatre Mini-Festival
Acting company of the Youth Digital Theatre Mini-Festival on Skype with students of Smithers, BC
The Arts Club proudly presented our very first Youth Digital Theatre Mini-Festival at the Goldcorp Stage at the BMO Theatre Centre on Thursday, June 16, to great success! Eight young playwrights had the opportunity to see and hear their scripts read in front of an audience in Vancouver, as well as in an auditorium in their hometown of Smithers, BC, through live streaming technology.
LEAP Leader Shawn Macdonald thanking our community partners for their support
This innovative program takes the script-developing aspects of our LEAP program (Learning Early About Playwriting) and then reaches out to communities in BC’s interior to allow youth from these areas the same access that students in the Lower Mainland receive. For our pilot program, eight students from Smithers Secondary participated and created scripts over a ten week period in a virtual classroom moderated by our fabulous instructor and program director, Shawn Macdonald.
These students were able to workshop with six of Vancouver’s finest actors through live streaming and their experience culminated in the readings last Thursday. Congratulations to all the students involved!
And a special thank you to the TELUS Vancouver Community Board, without whom this program would not have happened.
